How To Break A Juice Fast – 3 Day Meal Plan

Juice fasting is one of my favourite things to do. It’s not just a body thing but a mind thing for me. When I do a juice fast, it allows me to feel like I’ve pressed the reset button. However, the real crux of the fast lies in how you finish and continue on your healthy eating journey. If you want to find out how to break a juice fast safely then read on!

Similar to my other post on how to break a juice cleanse, this post will be giving you a paleo meal plan for the first three days after your fast. As I mentioned in my previous post, how many days you spend building up to eating proper food again is based on how many days you do your fast. For every four days of your fast, you would take a day to break, for example 7 day fast would need 1-2 days, 10 day fast would need 2-3 days and so on. My plan is based on a 10 day fast so I have covered 3 days of transitioning.

Knowing how to break a juice fast safely is so key to ensuring you transition into eating normal foods with ease. Don’t be scared of the horror stories of people ending up in hospital for eating a pizza straight after their fast but don’t be oblivious either! Take the necessary precautions, listen to your body and enjoy the process!

Another thing to note is, you won’t get into the habit of eating breakfast, lunch and dinner immediately after your fast. This is because fasting does not tax your digestive system and therefore it will take some time for your system to process a normal amount of food without any issues. So, this is not your regular plan but more so a guide for what to eat on the days after your fast!

3 Day Meal Plan – Ideas for how to break your juice cleanse

Day 1
Smoothies all day!! For your first day after your juice fast, you want to start by waking up your digestive system with already broken down foods! Smoothies are the easiest to start with but you could also substitute this for light broths or soups.

Day 2
We want to push a little more here so we’re adding in thicker soups like my Butternut Squash soup. Some more smoothies and maybe a smoothie bowl with soft fruits like peaches etc. Some ideas below!

Day 3
By now, you’re listening to your body and noting how your digestive system feels. If you feel ready, let’s start chewing some harder fruits and veg! You want to also steam some veggies like carrots and broccoli. So, a cold or warm salad would be perfect. You can also keep drinking smoothies or have a smoothie bowl! See some ideas below!

Day 4
I’ve added in this extra day for more guidance. Now our digestive system is being exercised! For the purposes of this guide we have to get candid so if you’ve done a number 2 by now, it’s safe to say you can start eating some protein! I would start off with things like eggs or smoked salmon. I’ve deliberately left this guide for you to have as much control over this process as possible. I believe you’ve fasted to take back control over your eating habits and I’m hoping your life habits, in general. However many days you fasted for, you did a very consistent thing!
