How To Make A Paleo Summer Grapefruit Peach Raspberry Smoothie

Nothing is quite as good in the summer as a refreshing smoothie. Smoothies can be a great way to get some extra nutrition into your diet. However, they can be unhealthy too if you do not make them correctly.

How To Make A Paleo Summer Grapefruit Peach Raspberry Smoothie

That being said, smoothies fit in so well with the paleo diet as they are primary fruit and vegetables!

The Paleo diet includes fruit, vegetables, lean meat, eggs, fish, nuts, and seeds. And, smoothies are primarily made with fruits, vegetables, and can include nuts and seeds (for an extra dose of protein!).

This makes smoothies great for those on a paleo diet in the summer months.

Today, we want to look at a Grapefruit, Peach, and Raspberry smoothie!

Why Are Smoothies So Good?

Smoothies contain a lot of fruits and vegetables, so they contain a lot of vitamins, minerals, fibers, and in some cases antioxidants (if you choose the right foods).

Smoothies, when made well, can also help you lose weight as they can make you feel satiated, help you cut back on snacking, as they help you to feel full for longer.

A benefit of smoothies for those on the paleo diet is that they may even help you adapt to the diet, they can be quite sweet with some fruits in them, which can help you switch from a modern, sugar-heavy diet to the paleo diet!

Things To Keep In Mind

Remember that fruit-based smoothies tend to be quite high in sugar. Fruit naturally contains sugar, and once blended, these fruits will release their sugars into your smoothies. So, while the fruit is healthy, it can be high in sugar.

This means that as nice as smoothies are, be watchful of how much fruit is in them, and be sure to not have them too often, as having sugary fruit smoothies often can actually be unhealthy.

It can also be a good idea to consider using milk or water as the liquid base of your smoothies, while fruit juices are a common choice, these contain a lot of sugar and will often result in even more sugar being in your smoothies!

Grapefruit: To Consider

Grapefruit is one of our favorite ingredients in this grapefruit, peach, and raspberry smoothie, however, grapefruit is not ideal for everyone.

Grapefruit can help to control your sugar levels by reducing insulin resistance, which can prevent the risk of type 2 diabetes.

However, if you are on blood pressure medication, or on blood thinners such as warfarin, you should avoid consuming grapefruit juice.

If you are taking warfarin, grapefruit juice can increase the effects of the medication on your blood, which will make you bleed easier.

Similarly, if you are taking blood pressure medication it can interfere with how your body absorbs the drugs.

It can leave too little or too much of the medication in your bloodstream which can be dangerous.

As delicious as grapefruit is, make sure you are familiar with its effects on medication regarding blood before you introduce it into your diet.

How To Make This Smoothie

Now, what do you need to make this smoothie? Well, aside from the ingredients you need to ensure that you have a decent blender. We recommend frozen raspberries for this recipe as they will help to thicken up the smoothie.

However, to properly tackle frozen produce you need to have a good blender. Vitamix and Ninja blenders are some of the best, however, the best thing you can do is check the blender’s materials.

A glass blender can be strong, however, if you fancy making smoothies a regular part of your diet, be cautious as glass can be prone to shattering.

The blades should also be considered. Stainless steel blades are the best as they will be able to tackle the solidity of frozen fruit.

Aside from a good blender, you just need the ingredients and a glass, cup, or jar to pour it into.

Ingredients: What Do You Need?

  • 1 whole grapefruit.
  • 1 whole peach.
  • Frozen raspberries, 1 cup.
  • Coconut milk, ½ cup.
  • Blender.
  • Cup/glass to drink the smoothie.

Step-By-Step

Follow these steps to make yourself a delicious smoothie.

Step 1

Start with the frozen raspberries, and put them into the blender to help break them up easier.

Step 2

Next, add the coconut milk. And blend again to mix it with the raspberries.

Step 3

You won’t want the skin of the grapefruit in the smoothie. So peel it until you have just the segments of the grapefruit. You can use a pin to remove the flesh of the grapefruit from the segments if you want to get rid of this.

You do not need to do this, however, the skin that coats the segments can create ‘bits’ in the smoothie. If you would rather have a smoother consistency then it is best to remove this.

Chop up the peach into small, blendable pieces.

Step 4

Add the grapefruit slices and cut-up peach to your blender and blend for 1–2 minutes. You may only have to blend for 30 seconds if you have a powerful blender, however.

Step 5

Pour into your cup/glass and enjoy.

Note: Some people enjoy adding an extra dose of protein to their smoothies, using nuts and seeds, while others use protein powder. It is ideal to add protein to your smoothies if you intend on using them as a meal replacement.

Overall

Smoothies can be super addictive, which is no problem if you ensure you make them the right way. Smoothies can add extra nutrition to your diet and ensure that you get all the fiber, minerals, and vitamins you need.

However, before you start enjoying these smoothies regularly ensure you have a good blender, and know how to properly use ingredients and nutrition to your advantage!
